Our Story
Making Good on our Promises.
Literacy is the key to opening doors and creating opportunity. Some non-profit organizations have complex missions that take years to see results. Our Founder and Executive Director, Ruth Stalford’s work leading Make Good, and its core programs: The Book Foundation and The TAY Shop at The Emporium: Foster Resource & Literacy Center was much clearer, simpler, and more tangible. Get new books and new essential items into the hands of the most vulnerable youth in Los Angeles County.
Treat these young people with dignity and respect by not just offering them hand-me-downs, but by giving them something brand new that they actually choose themselves. It sounds so simple, but empowering a child to choose something for themselves is transformative. Someone cares about them.
In 2014, The Book Foundation was born and soon after in mid-2017, the TAY Shop came to life and in 2022 we scaled up the Life Literacy Workshops to round out Make Good’s impact.
